Job Summary
This position is responsible for managing survey vendor contracts (Land Surveying Coordinator) to provide quality land surveying services in a safe and cost-effective manner. Responsibilities include developing project scope, estimating costs, generating requests for quotes, managing data entry, monitoring contractors, reviewing invoices, performing quality checks on deliverables, and closing projects in the work management tool. The role requires broad knowledge of land survey concepts and the ability to coordinate with regional professional service providers.
This individual serves as a problem solver, promoting new technology to increase quality and manage project cost, while supporting company goals and representing the company positively.
St.Petersburg, FL or Orlando, FL; position can be located at any Duke Energy location in Florida with vacancy.
Responsibilities- Lead survey vendor oversight, ensuring contractor staff and outside consultants meet safety, quality, and schedule standards for various survey types.
- Provide leadership and training to contracted survey crews, fostering professionalism and customer service.
- Integrate internal resources and external contractors into seamless service delivery.
- Monitor, inspect, and review survey work performed by contractors for compliance with technical specifications, schedules, and budgets.
- Direct multiple survey vendors, solve complex problems, and ensure quality of deliverables.
- Maintain regular progress reports on survey projects, providing feedback and recommending corrective actions.
- Thoroughly inspect and validate field work, maps, and electronic files for accuracy.
- Attend project meetings, obtain detailed cost estimates, and agree on delivery dates.
- Monitor cost, time frames, and work performance against Master Service Agreements.
- Review vendor invoices and recommend payment based on performance, alerting management to potential overruns.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external personnel and agencies.
- Mediates and coordinates resolution of problems between departments for real estate acquisition and disposition.
- Participate in professional organizations and stay current on laws and regulations affecting land surveying.
- Ensure safety and environmental compliance for internal staff and contract survey vendors.
- Apply technical skills to resolve engineering and analytical problems; determine and correct root causes.
- Ensure safety and environmental compliance, providing necessary training.
- Participate in professional associations such as State Society of Surveyors and IRWA.
Required Qualifications (Land Surveying Coordinator)
- Associate’s degree in Surveying and Topography or related field and 2+ years of related work experience.
- or High School/GED and 4+ years of related work experience.
Required Qualifications (Senior Land Surveying Coordinator)
- Associate’s degree in Surveying and Topography or related field and 5+ years of related work experience.
- or High School/GED and 7+ years of related work experience.
- Professional Land Surveyor certification.
- Strong project management skills and ability to coordinate all contract phases.
- Excellent organization, documentation, and construction plan reading skills.
- Independent work ability with complex computation using surveying software.
- Critical thinking and decision‑making skills.
- Extensive knowledge of professional surveying practices, scope development, and laws.
- Experience with high‑voltage transmission route surveys.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Progressive land surveying management experience (4+ years).
Field mobility; work performed at various field locations as needed. Requires reasonable daily commute. Frequent field visits in hot and cold weather, occasional travel within and beyond the Duke Energy service area.
