YReads! Program Tutor

The YReads! Program is an exciting literacy/mentoring initiative for kindergarten through fifth grade students, taking place at Pinellas County Schools throughout St. Petersburg, FL. The program uses curriculum-based literacy instruction to help struggling readers in areas of phonetics, sight word recognition, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. As a tutor, you would provide assistance and support to the program coordinator during YReads!

hours to ensure that outlined program goals and procedures are being achieved.

• Assist in student supervision, help maintain order, and positively reinforce "good choices" when appropriate.
• Assist students to and from the restroom.
• Assist coordinator in picking up and dropping off students around the school.
• Oversee and ensure that mandatory procedures are followed when parents or guardians pick up students.
• Maintain necessary paperwork: testing, volunteer and student sign‑in and sign‑out logs.
• Teach basic reading skills using lessons developed by the YREADS Coordinator using all curricula.
• Attend required abuse risk management training.
• Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
• Adhere to job‑specific abuse risk management responsibilities.

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Have a desire or interest in learning about literacy intervention.
• Have experience working with children in an educational environment.
• Show compassion and empathy for struggling readers.
• Tutoring experience strongly preferred.
• Pass a 10‑panel drug screen.
• Clear a Level 2 background check.

Part‑time, $15.00 per hour. After‑school hours, 4 days per week, approximately 15 hours per week.
