The Field Engineer will be responsible for the installation of phone, internet, television, and security services at various client sites. A Field Engineer plays a pivotal role in supporting Smart Choice’s continued track record of driving efficient operations, while offering a white-glove level of service.
Duties/Responsibilities- Perform on-site activities related to installations, including site surveys, repairs, management, and maintenance
- Track and document the progression of the work plan
- Deploy and troubleshoot wired and wireless networks
- Deploy and troubleshoot security systems
- Build relationships and foster trust with customers and clients
- Perform and document site surveys with documentation, diagrams, and photos
- Make recommendations for improvements regarding infrastructure
- Perform customer support tasks
- Adhere to company rules and regulations
- Operate company vehicles in a safe manner
- Other duties as assigned by management
- Previous experience as a field engineer/field technician preferred
- LAN knowledge, networking knowledge, network design/implementation, network troubleshooting, network hardware configuration
- Understanding of basic networking protocols and fundamentals
- Cisco routers, switches, IOS, Layer 2/3, WLAN, LAN and WAN
- Facilities security systems: low voltage wiring, cables, cameras, card readers
- Valid driver’s license and clean motor vehicle record
- Experience with Category 5 and 6 cables
- Knowledge of punch-downs
- Copper and fiber terminations knowledge
- Experience using LC and SC connectors
- Expertise with Fluke network fiber optic tools
- Knowledge of security systems
- Experience with HDMI
- Experience with Rack and Stack system and configuring installations effectively
- Experience using Visio
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Must be able to travel locally on a daily basis to various customer sites
- Must be able to travel overnight to out-of-state locations as required
- Requires frequent kneeling and bending and considerable use of hands and tools; walking long distances
- Frequently requires moving or lifting up to 50 pounds and able to lift 75 pounds on occasion
