Provides technical expertise in the oversight of a public and/or private network such as Internet protocol (IP) networks, wide, local and storage area networks (WANs, LANs, SANs) and public switched telephone networks | Plans, designs, installs, maintains, monitors, analyzes, troubleshoots, modifies and supports network communications systems to provide maximum performance and availability | Plans, designs, implements and supports LANs/WANs/SANs in the areas of Internet connectivity, capacity planning, routing, switching, server load balancing, network security and wireless | Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance network capabilities.

- Deploys and implements plans and designs of network systems that will meet an organization’s requirements for performance, security, and compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
- Conducts network architecture design, feasibility, and cost studies.
- Defines monitoring, maintenance, expansion, contingency, and recovery plans and strategies to ensure the network is responsive to changes in demand.
- Troubleshoots network issues and develops appropriate solutions, resources, and deployment processes.
- Keeps informed of the latest technologies to enhance knowledge of networking hardware, software, and best practices.
- May be certified in vendor‑specific products.
- May also have responsibility for Network Administration including:
- Responsible for the daily administration of a network and server environment.
- Installs, configures, and maintains system software.
- Monitors network performance, troubleshoots issues, and deploys solutions.
- Documents network issues and events using standard formats.
- Plans and implements upgrades, patches, and new applications and equipment installation.
- Uses scripting and writes basic programs to automate processes.
- Maintains and follows disaster recovery, security, backup, and restore plans.
- May evaluate new tools or equipment and perform analysis/feasibility studies to guide decisions on optimizing network performance.
- Required education and experience: Associate’s Degree and 5-7 years’ experience (Associate’s Degree).
- Critical professional related technical skills; computer skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Preferred education and experience: Bachelor’s Degree.
- Discipline/Major: Information Technology or related discipline preferred.
