About the Role
Blue Origin is seeking a talented and driven Packaging Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring our aerospace hardware is protected, compliant, and ready for transport across the country and beyond. You will collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supplier Management, and external partners to develop and maintain world-class packaging solutions that support our mission of making access to space accessible for all.
Responsibilities- Oversee and manage the end-to-end packaging development process, including the creation of packaging standards, designs, prototype development, and performance testing as needed
- Interpret military and commercial standards and apply them effectively to packaging designs
- Analyze engineering drawings and product specifications to determine physical characteristics, special handling requirements, environmental and safety considerations, and appropriate materials - ensuring designs are optimized for manufacturability
- Troubleshoot new and existing packaging challenges involving designs, materials, and processes, delivering creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions
- Collaborate with both internal and external customers to meet production support demands aligned with Blue Origin requirements
- Work closely with suppliers, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supplier Management teams
- Identify and champion opportunities for continuous improvement in corporate processes
- Support extensive travel throughout the U.S. as required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Packaging Engineering (years of relevant work experience may be substituted for degree)
- 2+ years of experience in a Packaging Engineer role
- Knowledge and understanding of packaging design validation standards (ISO, ASTM, etc.), drafting, and specification standards
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software
- 2+ years of experience in Logistics, Transportation, and Shipping of aerospace hardware
- 2+ years of experience with Shipping Department functions, including material handling, packaging of aerospace hardware, hazardous materials, and raw materials including metals
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
- Experience in manufacturing, aerospace, or military environments
- Experience with all modes of transportation
- Experience with international shipments
- Experience with protective packaging materials
- Dangerous Goods certification for all modes of transportation, or working knowledge of 49 CFR

, or IMDG Code - Experience interpreting military packaging standards, specifically MIL-STD-2073-1
- Strong understanding of physics and physical forces acting on products during transportation
