At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We are working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a hardworking team of engineers and technical specialists, you will serve as the primary Design for Manufacturability (DFM) partner for machined parts, providing early, actionable feedback that reduces machining cycle time and cost while improving quality and repeatability. You will translate engineering intent (models, drawings, and configurations) into robust machining plans and shop-floor documentation, and you will support process qualification and issue resolution from first-article through sustained builds.

Responsibilities
  • Lead DFM feedback for machined parts to reduce cycle time and cost by optimizing tolerances, datum schemes, feature geometry, surface finish callouts, material selection, and inspection approach prior to design release.
  • Partner with Design Engineering and stakeholders to influence part architecture and requirements early, ensuring machinability, inspection, and clear acceptance criteria.
  • Develop CNC machining process plans for complex hardware, including operation sequencing, machine assignments, fixturing and work holding concepts, tooling selection, and cutting parameters for milling/turning/multi-axis/grinding/EDM.
  • Translate models, drawings, and configurations into clear, executable manufacturing work instructions, setup sheets, and tool lists that enable repeatable execution across shifts.
  • Define machining strategy and collaborate with CAM programmers to standardize approaches and optimize toolpaths for cycle time, tool life, surface finish, and dimensional capability.
  • Perform drawing reviews and provide manufacturing approval input to ensure requirements are achievable, cost-effective, and unambiguous.
  • Support repair/rework planning for machined components, including disposition support, process definition, and standardized methods where applicable.
  • Lead machining-related nonconformance investigations (dimensional, surface finish, tool breakage, metallurgical damage), execute root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions/process improvements.
  • Evaluate/select machining equipment and work holding solutions as needed to enable long‑term throughput and cost targets.
  • Support automation and modernization efforts like probing/on‑machine measurement, adaptive machining, and tool management to reduce variability and non‑value‑added work.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering with a machining focus, CNC process engineering, or CNC applications engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience providing DFM guidance for machined parts, including tolerance/datum optimization and cost/cycle‑time trade studies.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings with GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and translate requirements into machining and inspection plans.
  • Experience developing and improving manufacturing work instructions and shop‑floor documentation (setup sheets, tool lists, process notes).
  • Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action for machining‑related quality issues.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross‑functionally with Design, Quality, Metrology/Inspection, and Manufacturing Operations.
  • Ability to safely work within an industrial/manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 8+ years of CNC machining…
