Water/Wastewater Plant Operator Trainee

Schedule:
Ability to work 40 hours per week (10 hours/day, 4 days/week) and be assigned shifts to cover a 24-hour a day operation. The incumbent will normally be the sole operator on the shift after a sufficient training period.
Technical work monitoring, operating, and maintaining an Industrial Wastewater Treatment Facility. The incumbent independently completes tasks in water and/or wastewater treatment plant operations, monitoring, maintenance, and/or repair of pumps, motors, treatment systems, generators, and related support systems. Types of equipment and systems experienced may include lift stations, switch gear, flow meters, chemical feed systems, overhead cranes and related activities. The incumbent also performs collection, analysis, reporting, and processing of a variety of samples.
The incumbent performs work independently, takes initiative to ensure sound plant operations. The incumbent seeks guidance and direction on unusual or difficult assignments or problems. The incumbent is supervised by a manager, plant operations supervisor or designee.
- Ensure the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of the Industrial Water Treatment Facility and surface water intake station to ensure an adequate supply of properly treated water to the Waste to Energy plant.
- Monitor available water supply and communicate and coordinate with Waste to Energy staff on Waste to Energy water needs and availability.
- Monitor and maintain appropriate chemical feed and chemical feed system parts inventory levels.
- Monitor and operate Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for the Industrial Water Treatment Facility.
- Perform water quality testing as required, review the results, and adjust plant operations as necessary to meet water performance standards.
- Replace parts and conduct troubleshooting as necessary to maintain plant operations.
- Prepare correspondence and reports.
- Maintain accurate and complete records on plant operations, maintenance, and laboratory data.
- Participate in section and Division meetings and task teams.
- Performs related work as assigned or required.
- Valid Florida Driver's License at time of hire.
- Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
- High school diploma or equivalent and agree to complete a Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) approved training course to obtain a passing score on the Florida Water or Wastewater Plant Operator Class “C” License as set forth in Florida Administrative Code Chapter 62-602, DEP describing Water or Domestic Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators and Water Distribution System Operators license requirements.
- Must obtain Water or Wastewater Plant Operator Class "C" license within 2 years of hire; if they do not already have a "C" license.
- Water or Wastewater Plant Operator Class "C" license or higher.
- Two years’ experience with Micro Filtration and Reverse Osmosis technology in water treatment.
