Senior Civil Site Design Engineer — Tampa / St. Petersburg, FL
Civil Engineering - Site & Land Development
Tampa Bay is one of the fastest-growing markets in the Southeast — want to be one of the engineers actually shaping how it gets built?
Southern Search is conducting a confidential search on behalf of a client, an established civil engineering and site development firm with deep roots and an expanding footprint across the Tampa / St. Petersburg market. They're adding a Civil Site Design Engineer to a team working a steady, varied pipeline of municipal, private development, and institutional projects.
The OpportunityThis is a design seat with real range — you won't be stuck running the same detail on repeat. You'll carry projects from early layout through permitting and into construction support, working directly with project managers, planners, and engineers across disciplines rather than sitting several steps removed from the decisions. For someone a few years into their civil career who wants broader technical exposure, more ownership, and a clear runway toward senior design responsibility, this is a well-positioned next move — especially with the amount of development activity currently moving through this market.
WhatYou'll Do
- Design civil site plans — layouts, utility services and extensions, grading, drainage, stormwater management, and erosion control
- Develop construction details and technical specifications that hold up as constructible, coordinated designs
- Navigate the permitting and entitlement process, ensuring designs clear local, state, and agency review
- Support construction through RFI responses, site visits, and progress meetings
- Work alongside project managers, planners, and multidisciplinary engineers from concept through delivery
- Apply engineering judgment to flag design risk early and keep quality assurance tight across phases
- Contribute to proposals, scope definition, and technical documentation as projects ramp up
- Mentor junior engineering staff informally as your experience grows
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
- 3+ years of site civil or municipal engineering design experience
- PE license, or EIT with clear progress toward licensure, preferred
- Hands-on design experience with grading, water mainlines, sanitary sewers, roadways, storm sewers, and stormwater management
- Proficiency in Civil 3D and HydroCAD
- Strong communication skills — able to translate technical detail for both internal teams and outside stakeholders
- A self-starter who manages competing deadlines without needing to be chased
- Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000
- BCBS medical, dental, and vision coverage
- Flexible spending and health savings account options
- 401(k) retirement savings plan with employer matching contribution
- Paid professional association membership
- Tuition and certification expense reimbursement
