Manufacturing Engineer IV

The job function of a Manufacturing Engineer IV is to provide technical contributions for both commercialized and new products. This position is responsible for the processes, equipment, documentation, and related supplier capability required to manufacture assigned products. The scope of the position includes routine production line support, product improvement projects, and new product introduction activities. The focus of the position is to continually improve product quality, delivery, and cost, both on the factory floor and from the related suppliers.

Although the technology will be specific to the product family, process, and equipment, general manufacturing engineering tools will be applied across all product lines.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead analysis and problem solving for manufacturing non-conformances.
  • Identify opportunities for quality defects to occur in manufacturing processes and suggest mitigations.
  • Lead Design of Experiments to develop new processes or solve material and equipment problems.
  • Provide guidance and direction to other engineers implementing the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures required to perform manufacturing engineering disciplines such as 5S, Lean, and Six-Sigma.
  • Recommend and lead complex product cost improvement projects, to improve product margins in support of company CI initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and direction to other engineers performing time and motion studies, quantify the work content of a manufacturing process.
  • Conduct factory layouts for throughput and efficiency.
  • Design the workflow of complex manufacturing processes.
  • Oversee and manage packaging development processes, including the creation of packaging standards, designs, prototype development, and performance testing.
  • Evaluate Factory constraints to justify capital expenditures including ROIs. Create capacity and efficiency models.
  • Create tools and lead ergonomic changes.
  • Process and apply comprehensive knowledge of Equipment or Controls Engineering to develop solutions to improve manufacturing process performance and efficiencies.
  • Keep current on new and improving technologies, trains other engineers, and lead multiple projects.
  • Lead large scale cross-functional teams to design and validate new products, improve processes, identify, and implement continuous improvement concepts, assess suppliers, perform root cause analysis and problem solving.
  • Understand and apply advanced analytics to troubleshoot complex multi-discipline systems and machines.
  • Provide technical oversight to other engineers in the disciplines of Manufacturing Equipment and Test Development.
  • Provide guidance and direction to other engineers on writing procedures, work instructions and test documentation.
  • Create all product documentation including BOM's, assembly drawings, work instructions and ECO's in a highly efficient manner.
  • Create documentation required for product design changes. Initiate and lead the activities required to gain cross-functional approval and implement changes.
  • Lead initiatives and cross-functional teams to assess supplier capabilities, develop packaging solutions for components and systems, create operational and process qualification protocols for new products and processes.
  • Manage new equipment installation and commissioning of new plant equipment.
  • Lead design transfer activities such as process validations. Lead post-NPI launch issue resolution teams.
  • Support Engineering to evaluate alternate materials.
  • Represent Manufacturing function on cross-functional teams that are engaged in strategic initiatives that have significant impact on ongoing company operations and/or future business opportunities.
Required Knowledge and

Skills:
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Quality Management Systems Experience.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and collaborating behaviors.
  • General computer applications such as Excel, Access, Visio, Tableau.
  • Understanding of electrical design, schematics, and CAD assembly drawings.
  • BS degree in Engineering with minimum 7 years of manufacturing engineering experience OR
  • MS degree in Engineering with minimum 5 years of manufacturing engineering experience.
  • MS Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering
  • ISO 13485/FDA Regulation Experience
  • CAD experience, preferably Solid Works
  • ERP knowledge, preferably SAP
  • PLM knowledge, preferably Agile
