An established heavy civil highway and bridge contractor with projects across Florida is seeking a Project Engineer for its St. Petersburg office in the Tampa Bay area. This is a strong opportunity for a Project Engineer or experienced Field Engineer with 5 to 8 years in civil construction who has managed multiple activities at once and is looking for a real career path with a stable, well-backed employer.
The role owns the engineering and project controls side of heavy civil highway work, much of it FDOT-related. Tampa Bay locals are welcome, as are candidates ready to relocate.
- Review the contract and specifications in their entirety
- Support the Project Manager and Project Superintendent on day to day project needs
- Prepare and update the project schedule in Primavera P6
- Track quantities, project costs and forecasting
- Obtain pricing from subcontractors and vendors, including change orders
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and crews to resolve field conflicts
- Support monthly billing, cash flow projections and change order processing
- Run document control for submittals, contract documents and record drawings
- Review Heavy Job daily reports for accuracy
- Keep NPDES permits, the SWPPP, inspections, survey staking and joint measurements with the owner on track
- 5 to 8 years of experience in the civil construction field, office and field
- Experience managing multiple activities at once on heavy civil work
- B.S. in Civil Engineering
- Proficiency with Primavera P6, Excel and Word
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Based in the Tampa Bay area or ready to relocate
- B.S. in Civil Engineering with a Construction Engineering and Management emphasis, ideally
- FDOT project experience is a plus
- HCSS Heavy Job experience is a plus
