Position Summary: The Vice President of Actuarial, Data and Analytics leads and actively participates in the company’s actuarial, data, and analytics functions, with direct accountability for reserving, pricing, catastrophe modeling, and analytics. This role is both strategic and hands‑on, providing practical actuarial insight to support underwriting performance, financial results, and risk management.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer/Chief Information Officer, the VP of Actuarial, Data, and Data Analytics works closely with Reinsurance, Underwriting, Product Management, Claims, Reinsurance, and Finance to ensure actuarial analyses and data‑driven insights are embedded in day‑to‑day decision‑making. The role requires deep technical expertise, strong professional judgment, and the ability to translate analysis into clear, actionable guidance.
Note: This is a hybrid position. Local candidates or those willing to relocate to the Tampa Bay region are preferred. Associates in the Tampa Bay region must work on site at our St. Petersburg, FL office each Monday and Wednesday. Associates based outside the Tampa Bay region are required to be on site periodically.
Typical Essential Duties- Develops and implements comprehensive actuarial strategy aligned with business goals and company values.
- Leads cross‑functional actuarial, data, and analytics team by setting direction, prioritizing work, and delegating responsibilities appropriately to develop team capability, ensure accountability, and achieve organizational objectives while maintaining responsibility for outcomes.
- Fosters strong collaboration across departments, particularly Finance, Reinsurance, Underwriting, and Product Management.
- Serves as a trusted actuarial advisor to the executive leadership team.
- Supports organizational initiatives and culture.
- Leads and actively performs and reviews loss and LAE reserving analyses on a quarterly and annual basis.
- Establishes reserving methodologies, assumptions, and diagnostics, and conducts reserve reviews.
- Works closely with Claims, Finance and Reinsurance to evaluate trends, emerging risks, and reserve movements.
- Clearly communicates reserve results, challenges, and uncertainty to senior management and the Board of Directors.
- Oversees and remains directly involved in pricing models, indications, and portfolio analyses.
- Partners closely with Underwriting and Product Management on pricing targets, rate adequacy, and underwriting guidelines.
- Evaluates portfolio performance, segmentation, and profitability trends.
- Provides hands‑on actuarial support for new product development, program opportunities, and underwriting strategy.
- Leads catastrophe modeling strategy, including vendor model selection, internal adjustments, and model governance.
- Oversees portfolio exposure management, PML analysis, and scenario testing.
- Partners with Reinsurance and Risk Management on reinsurance program design, placement support, and post‑event analysis.
- Leads and contributes to the company’s data and analytics initiatives, ensuring data quality and practical usability.
- Drives analytical solutions that support underwriting, claims, pricing, and reserving.
- Promotes efficient, scalable analytical tools and automation appropriate for the organization’s size.
- Leads and develops the knowledge and skills of department staff to enhance individual and team success.
- Maintains a professional and effective department through the selection, training, review, retention, compensation, and motivation of all employees under the position’s leadership.
