Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • Working under the direct supervision of a Health Service Supervisor, the incumbent in this position serves in a developmental capacity, providing direct disease and public health awareness intervention activities to CHD STD Prevention and Control Programs including but not limited to Partner Counseling Referral Services (PCRS), epidemiological case analysis and investigations, notification, counseling and referral services of individuals exposed to or at-risk of infection from syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis and other bacterial, viral or biological agents.
  • Provides partner services in accordance with current STD Program Policy to a wide variety of individuals infected with or at risk of a sexually transmitted infection, including hepatitis, HIV/AIDS or other bacterial, biological and/or viral agents to elicit partner and suspect information. Utilizes information for epidemiological analysis to identify the source and spread.
  • Conducts field investigations in accordance with current STD Program Policy to locate and provide follow up to individuals infected with syphilis, HIV/AIDS, chlamydia, gonorrhea and/or to refer individuals infected with or suspected to be at-risk of infection for counseling, medical evaluation and treatment.
  • Performs case management activities, including work prioritization and records documentation, clustering, HIV pre and post-test counseling, visual case analysis, STARS data entry and/or other related activities.
  • Communicates with public and private clinics, clinicians, hospitals, laboratories, and other health care providers to obtain demographic, medical, or other specific client information and to arrange medical evaluations and treatments for a client.
  • Performs specific outreach and backup to other members of the Division of Disease Control and Health Protection as assigned to an operations level. This may include but is not limited to:
    Pinellas County Jail, case investigation and specimen pickup, Direct Observed Therapy (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). Video Direct Observed Therapy (VDOT), immunization clinics, preparedness functions, disease investigations, and traveler monitoring.
  • Participates in clinical, community or impromptu screening activities by performing venipuncture techniques to identify STI, Hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, or other bacterial, biological, or viral agents. These activities will occur before, during or after normal working hours and/or on weekends or holidays.
  • Completes required records and reports including case management forms, laboratory request forms, travel reimbursement forms, HMC/CIS, etc. in accordance with current CHD and STD Program Policy and/or procedure.
  • Ensure required training are completed as outlined in training plan, including HIV/AIDS 501 and Introduction to Passport/ DISTA training.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the principles of epidemiology and surveillance.
  • Knowledge of state statutes and laws regarding disease reporting.
  • Ability to complete venipuncture in the clinic or field setting.
  • Ability to perform basic computer operations.
  • Knowledge of computer software applications
  • Effective written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Effective Interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain reliable personal motorized transportation, i.e., automobile or similar vehicle, to perform field activities and to transport patients when necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum:
    Valid FL driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment
  • Preferred:
    Associate's degree One Year of STARS 2.0 experience One year of phlebotomy experience One year of experience working with STD/STI programs One year of case management or counseling experience
