The Infection Preventionist / ADON is responsible for leading and coordinating the facility’s infection prevention and control program while assisting the Director of Nursing in the overall management, supervision, and clinical oversight of nursing services. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and promotes a safe, high‑quality environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities Infection Prevention & Control- Develop, implement, and maintain the facility’s Infection Prevention and Control Program in accordance with CDC, CMS, OSHA, and state regulations
- Conduct ongoing surveillance of healthcare‑associated infections and report findings to leadership and appropriate agencies
- Investigate infection outbreaks and implement corrective actions promptly
- Ensure proper isolation precautions and transmission‑based precautions are followed
- Educate staff on infection prevention practices, including hand hygiene, PPE use, and standard precautions
- Monitor compliance with infection control policies through audits and rounds
- Collaborate with medical providers, labs, and public health authorities as needed
- Maintain accurate infection control documentation and data tracking
- Assist the Director of Nursing with planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating nursing services
- Provide clinical supervision and support to nursing staff
- Participate in staff training, competency evaluations, and performance improvement initiatives
- Assist with staffing coordination, scheduling, and coverage as needed
- Support quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) activities
- Participate in care plan development and interdisciplinary team meetings
- Assist with regulatory surveys and ensure readiness at all times
- Act as DON in their absence, as assigned
- Current, unencumbered RN license in the state of employment
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN preferred)
- Minimum of 2–3 years of nursing experience in a long‑term care or skilled nursing setting
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Infection prevention or infection control experience strongly preferred
- Infection Preventionist training or certification (e.g., CIC or CDC‑recognized training) preferred
- CPR/BLS certification
- Strong knowledge of infection prevention regulations and best practices
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to educate and motivate staff
- Strong assessment, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills
- Proficient in electronic health records and data reporting systems
