This OPS temporary position with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's Fish and Wildlife Research Institute involves conducting field research and monitoring of commercial and headboat fisheries along Florida's Gulf Coast. The Biological Scientist I will collect biostatistical data on fish species, size, and weight; interview fishermen; and compile data into databases to support stock assessments and genetic analysis. The role is based in St.
Petersburg, FL and requires frequent travel throughout the region.
- 4 years professional experience in a biological field or laboratory program, or a bachelor s degree in biological sciences
- Knowledge of marine fish and invertebrate identification from Florida s Gulf Coast
- Ability to conduct field sampling and interview commercial/recreational fishers
- Experience with scientific sampling methodology and statistical data analysis
- Valid driver s license and personal vehicle required
