Minimum Qualifications:
  • 5 years professional experience in a closely‑related biological field or laboratory program is required.
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the biological sciences and one year of professional biological experience in a field or laboratory program; or
  • A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in one of the biological sciences can substitute for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior fisheries experience
  • Familiarity with commercial data processing
Requirements:
  • Employment contingent upon a satisfactory Level 1 & Level 2 background check at no cost to the candidate.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Office hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday.
  • Responses to qualifying questions should be verifiable by skills and/or experience stated on the profile application, resume, and cover letter. Information should be provided regarding any gaps in employment.
Position Overview and Responsibilities:
  • Perform data compilation, analyses, computerization for the processing of electronic Marine Fisheries Trip Tickets. Maintain and revise, as necessary, processing procedure manuals.
  • Prepare reports, summaries and/or interpretations of fisheries catch and effort data in response to requests by state and federal fisheries managers, fisheries organizations, individual fishers and dealers, and the scientific community. Process landings requests from fishers and dealers for endorsements and other qualifications.
  • Assist with other research program data compilation, analyses, computerization, and other related work in the Fisheries Dependent Monitoring group as required (to include occasional field sampling and fish ).
  • Assist with other institute programs and activities as required. Participate in public outreach efforts, as appropriate.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of personal computer operations.
  • Knowledge of database and spreadsheet software.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis.
  • Knowledge of marine fish and invertebrates of Florida.
  • Ability to communicate to the public effectively, with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to write technical reports and prepare tables.
  • Ability to gather, maintain and analyze data.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to maintain electronic records.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
