Position SummaryThe Public Safety Officer I is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of patients, visitors, and staff throughout the facility. This role works closely with healthcare professionals to maintain a safe and orderly environment, respond to emergencies, provide assistance as needed, and ensure no weapons or other prohibited items enter the hospital. ScheduleFull-Time Day Shift
Key Responsibilities- Patrol assigned areas of the hospital, including patient care units, entrances, parking areas, and exterior grounds.
- Monitor surveillance cameras, alarm systems, and access control points to identify and respond to security concerns.
- Respond promptly to requests for assistance from patients, visitors, and staff.
- Provide escorts, directions, and customer service support.
- Assist with visitor screening, access control, and enforcement of hospital safety policies.
- Conduct routine inspections of emergency exits, safety equipment, and life safety systems.
- Support emergency response efforts, drills, special events, and crowd control activities.
- Collaborate with clinical staff, security personnel, and emergency responders during critical incidents.
- Complete incident reports and maintain accurate documentation of security-related activities.
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and respect in all interactions.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to maintain driving privileges in accordance with Johns Hopkins Health System requirements.
- Must be at least 21 years old to apply. Exceptions may be considered for candidates with military, law enforcement, or comparable healthcare security experience.
- Successful completion of post-hire training and certification requirements, including CPR, Stop the Bleed, Narcan, and De-escalation training.
- Possession of a Florida Security "D" License or the ability to obtain the license within 180 days of employment.
As part of the pre‑employment process, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and a Samba Safety risk assessment will be conducted.
- Candidates must have no more than 5 points on their MVR
. - Candidates must have no more than 8 points from driving‑related infractions, violations, or convictions on their Samba Safety risk assessment.
- Candidates must have no more than 15 points resulting from any non‑valid license status (expired, suspended, revoked, etc.) on their Samba Safety risk assessment.
- Both assessments are completed separately. Failure to meet either requirement will result in disqualification from the pre‑employment process.
- One year of security, healthcare security, law enforcement, military, or customer service experience.
- Additional education or coursework in security, law enforcement, criminal justice, or healthcare‑related fields.
- Healthcare security certifications such as Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) or Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies.
- Excellent customer service and conflict‑resolution skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations in a healthcare environment.
