Eckerd College is currently hiring for the position of Part-Time Victim Advocate to join our Student Life team at our waterfront property along the Boca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg, Florida, in our relationship-focused community.

As a Part-Time Victim Advocate, you will serve as a confidential advocate, providing support services and information to students in response to experiences involving any form of sexual harassment or violence. The Advocate will provide advocacy and support services in accordance with federal and local laws and College policies.

The role requires the incumbent to have the ability to work effectively as a confidential advocate balancing the needs of individual students with those of the College. Also, the incumbent must have the ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and maturity in handling sensitive information, student interaction, and community relations as well as the ability to foster student development.

This is a part-time 20 hour/week position, 40 weeks per year. It is requested that applicants have the ability to be flexible with working hours.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Confidential Support and Advocacy:
    Serve as a confidential resource for students impacted by power-based interpersonal violence, offering non-judgmental listening and helping them process their experiences in a safe space.
  • Facilitate Resource Navigation:
    Provide comprehensive information about both on-campus and off-campus resources, helping students explore their options and connect with necessary support services, including medical care and counseling.
  • Coordinate Accompaniment and Reporting:
    Assist students by accompanying them to meetings with campus services, community law enforcement, or medical providers, and provide guidance throughout the process of filing reports.
  • Empower Student Decision-Making:
    Support students in exploring reporting options and making informed choices that feel right to them, ensuring all actions are trauma-informed and centered on the student’s needs.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • One or more years of demonstrated experience providing advocacy support preferred
