St. Petersburg Catholic High School (SPC)
Reports To: Athletic Director
St. Petersburg Catholic High School is excited to begin the next chapter of our Boys Basketball program and is seeking a passionate, faith-driven, and student-centered Varsity Head Coach to lead the way. This is a unique opportunity to build, shape, and grow a program with strong support from administration and a commitment to long-term success.
We are looking for a coach who is eager to make an immediate impact, developing student-athletes both athletically and spiritually, while creating a culture rooted in discipline, accountability, energy, and pride in representing SPC.
Primary Responsibilities- Oversee all aspects of the varsity boys basketball program
- Develop and implement a clear, exciting vision for the program aligned with SPC’s mission and Catholic values
- Build continuity across all levels (varsity, JV, and feeder programs)
- Organize and lead offseason training, camps, and skill development opportunities
- Plan and conduct high-energy, purposeful practices that promote skill development, teamwork, and competitiveness
- Provide individualized instruction and mentorship to student-athletes
- Promote academic success and monitor athlete eligibility
- Instill character, leadership, and sportsmanship in all players
- Prepare team for competition through scouting, film review, and detailed game planning
- Supervise student-athletes during games, practices, and team events
- Ensure proper care, inventory, and maintenance of equipment and uniforms
- Recruit, lead, and develop assistant coaches who align with the program’s vision
- Communicate clearly and consistently with players, parents, faculty, and administration
- Collaborate with the Athletic Director on scheduling, transportation, and program needs
- Ensure compliance with all Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) rules and regulations
- Submit rosters, eligibility forms, and required documentation in a timely manner
- Serve as an enthusiastic ambassador for SPC basketball within the school and local community
- Help generate excitement and pride around the program
- Support SPC athletic events and initiatives
- Represent St. Petersburg Catholic High School with professionalism and integrity
- Previous high school or higher-level basketball coaching experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategy, and player development
- Established connections or willingness to build relationships within AAU and grassroots basketball communities
- Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- A high level of energy, initiative, and enthusiasm for building a successful program
- Must pass a Level II background screening
- Experience building or revitalizing a competitive program
- Existing relationships with AAU coaches, trainers, and local basketball networks
- Ability to foster multi-sport athletes and collaborate with other coaches
- Strong emphasis on discipline, accountability, and culture-building
