GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION
Provide sanitation services by collecting and processing trash & recycling on an assigned route on Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri for the City of St. Robert. In accordance with established ordinances, policies and procedures of the City of St. Robert, Missouri.
JOB CONTEXTThe Driver-Laborer is a full-time, permanent position in the FLW
- Sanitation Department. The immediate supervisor for this position is the FLW Sanitation Manager. The person in the position is supervised daily and will be scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 4 PM with occasional hours on Saturday or after 4 PM. There is no night or shift work associated with this position. Ninety percent of the work is outdoors and ten percent is indoors.
The Driver-Laborer is accountable for the monetary, fiscal, safety, and legal issues for which this position is responsible. The job includes occasional exposure to chemicals and hazardous materials such as dust, dirt, exhaust, aerosol cans, trash, hospital needles, motor oil, paint, and car batteries. The stress level is average. Physical work includes sitting, standing, walking, climbing, bending, crouching, stooping, and lifting light and heavy objects requiring dexterity.
Work Days:
Monday to Friday (Weekends as Needed)
- Knows, understands and implements the solid waste disposal facility operating rules and procedures
- Keeps facility areas clean by sweeping, raking, picking up broken glass and loose paper debris, and maneuvering barrels and bins into proper locations
- Assists facility patrons with their trash/recyclables as needed, or as directed by Facility Manager
- Conducts visual inspection of loads as needed to prevent disposal of prohibited materials
- Collects garbage and recyclables from non-residential locations on Ft. Leonard Wood
- Ensures complete removal of all acceptable garbage or recyclables
- Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees
- Garbage or trash; utilizes front load garbage truck and/or roll-off truck to collect refuse/recyclables and transports them to the transfer station or the recycling center. Maintains a clean working environment and cleans out the truck container to ensure proper operation
- Operates packer on garbage truck or other tools as necessary to complete essential functions, using shovels, pitchforks, yard rakes, and brooms
- Assists facility patrons in the appropriate placement of refuse and recyclables
- Maintains recycling areas, recycling records, and ensures proper disposal and classification of all recycled materials
- Communicates with supervisor, employees, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities
- Maintains exterior of facility grounds including grass mowing, weed eating and edging, snow and ice removal, and collection of trash
- Is familiar with and executes safe work procedures associated with assigned work
- Packages, sorts, and stores recyclables in a safe and healthful manner
- Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and facility areas
- Store items in a safe, orderly and accessible manner
- Recommend disposal of unsafe, defective, or obsolete materials, equipment or supplies
- Operate equipment in accordance with established safety guidelines
- Performs other related duties as required
- (Have and Maintain) Valid Commercial Driver's License
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Some experience in this position is preferred
- Be respectful of customer and City's property
- Knowledge of standardized work routines used for manual tasks and operation of collection vehicles in solid waste operations
- General functions and operations of municipal government
- Must be willing to work in all weather conditions
- Refuse collectors gather garbage and other discarded materials set out by customers along designated routes
- Ability to carry, reach, bend, push, pull, and climb during route
- Ability to lift 50lbs or more continuously during route
- Work as a team member with other employees
