Salem High School is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Chemistry Teacher for the  school year. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality instruction aligned with the Indiana Academic Standards, foster a safe and engaging laboratory environment, and support student learning through effective instructional strategies, data-driven practices, and positive classroom management. The Chemistry Teacher will play an active role in Salem High School's collaborative culture and commitment to student success, including supporting college- and career-readiness initiatives.

Description:

The Chemistry Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, rigorous, and standards-based chemistry instruction to high school students. This position includes planning and implementing lessons, conducting laboratory experiments safely, assessing student learning, and collaborating with colleagues to support academic achievement. The teacher will promote critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and real-world application of chemistry concepts while maintaining high expectations for student behavior and performance.

The successful candidate must be willing to obtain dual credit certification to support advanced coursework opportunities for students.

Responsibilities:

* Plan and deliver instruction aligned with Indiana Academic Standards for Chemistry

* Develop engaging lessons that incorporate hands-on laboratory activities, demonstrations, and inquiry-based learning

* Ensure a safe, organized, and compliant laboratory environment by following all safety procedures and protocols

* Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments and provide timely, meaningful feedback

* Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, including grades and attendance

* Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic needs of students

* Utilize data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes

* Integrate technology and digital resources to enhance instruction and student engagement

* Collaborate with the science department, PLCs, and school staff to support school improvement initiatives

* Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and administration

* Uphold school policies, procedures, and expectations for professional conduct

* Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school events as required

Qualifications:

* Valid Indiana teaching license in Chemistry or Science (or eligibility to obtain licensure)

* Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Science Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).

* Willingness to obtain and maintain dual credit certification as required by partnering postsecondary institutions (e.g., Ivy Tech or other approved providers)

* Knowledge of high school chemistry curriculum and laboratory safety practices

* Strong classroom management and organizational skills

* Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families

* Commitment to student learning, academic rigor, and continuous professional growth

* Effective communication and collaboration skills

* Experience with instructional technology and data-driven instruction preferred
