Job DescriptionDescription
Acts as lead role for mail services, possessing extensive knowledge of applications of U.S. Postal Service regulations and pricing guidelines. Major duties include inbound and outbound mail and package sorting, and organization according to policies and procedures. Coordinates and processes bulk mailing projects. Provides support to campus materials management program using material handling tools including cargo vans, power forklift, and manual delivery equipment to distribute packages, mail, and other materials on a scheduled and unscheduled basis.
Supports Shipping and Receiving, Mail Services, Copy Center, and other areas, providing timely and accurate distribution of materials. Protects the assets of the university at all times by operating in a safe and efficient manner. Required to utilize transaction logging tools to support tracking of materials distributed. This position requires the appropriate handling of all types of mail and packages and is responsible for interacting with faculty, staff, and students on a daily basis.

Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in office work or in work in which the processing of incoming and/or outgoing mail (for example, delivering sorting, weighting, metering, etc.) was a major duty.
Knowledge of standard maintenance procedures followed in connection with mail-processing and handling equipment.
Special RequirementsBased on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class 3 Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
Preferred Qualifications- Ability to communicate effectively in oral expression.
- Ability to deal tactfully with others.
- Ability to supervise, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished, the capabilities of subordinates and available resources; controlling work through periodic reviews and/or evaluations; determining subordinates’ training needs and providing or arranging for such training; motivating subordinates to work effectively; determining the need for disciplinary action and either recommending or initiating disciplinary action.
This is an onsitepositionin Salem, MA with on-campus, in-person responsibilities.
Mail Clerks usually work indoors; lift and carry heavy objects; and will drive a state vehicle and travel for job-related purposes.
Employment is contingent upon a completed background and CORI check satisfactory to the university.
