Overview

The College of Arts and Sciences seeks an experienced Office Manager and Administrative Lead to oversee the daily operations of the dean's office. This role combines direct administrative leadership within the College, supervising administrative staff, improving office procedures and business processes, and serving as the go-to resource for departments across CAS on policy, systems, and best practices.

Key areas of responsibility include staff supervision and development, budget and records management, project and event coordination, and advising the Dean on organizational effectiveness and strategic priorities. The role requires close collaboration with Human Resources, Academic Affairs, Finance, and other campus units.

The ideal candidate brings sound judgment, discretion, and strong organizational skills, along with a commitment to fostering an inclusive, service-oriented environment for a diverse university community.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two or more years of office administration or coordinator experience.
  • Ability to efficiently manage daily office operations in a complex, multi-department environment.
  • Ability to reason and exercise independent and sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated skill in training, mentoring, or developing other administrative staff.
  • Skill in using electronic and computerized office equipment and systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of office practices, procedures, and management, and the ability to apply this knowledge effectively across multiple departments.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and work efficiently, accurately, and independently.
  • Ability to exercise discretion in dealing with confidential matters.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form, including with diverse administrative staff and stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle numerous and complex assignments simultaneously in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Ability to supervise, mentor, and coordinate the work of 10-15 administrative assistants across 20 academic departments within CAS, each with different needs depending on the discipline.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with others.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree.
  • Ability to coordinate the efforts of others in accomplishing assigned work objectives, including in a lead capacity without direct supervisory authority.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty members, staff, and stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.
  • Working Location

    This is an onsitepositionin Salem, MA with on-campus, in-person responsibilities,which may require occasional work on evenings and weekends.

    Employment is contingent upon a completed background and CORI check satisfactory to the university.
