Schedule: 40-hour-a-week, full-time, Monday-Friday, evenings and weekends as required
Salary: $23 – $25 per hour

The Salem Pantry (TSP) is seeking an Assistant Market Manager to support daily store operations and assist guests with SNAP applications. This role plays a key part in ensuring that The Market delivers fresh and healthy food to diverse communities with efficiency, reliability, and dignity. The Assistant Market Manager works closely with the Market Manager to oversee store performance, supervise staff and volunteers, and provide essential support services to guests.
ResponsibilitiesMarket Operations
- Assist the Market Manager in day-to-day operations and overall performance of The Market
- Open, close, and manage The Market independently in the manager’s absence
- Supervise the Market Associate and coordinate volunteer teams
- Administer customer relations software and maintain data integrity
- Oversee pest control protocols and vendor coordination
- Follow cleaning checklists to maintain store cleanliness and appearance standards
- Monitor and record daily temperature controls for all freezers and refrigerators
SNAP Assistance
- Provide SNAP assistance to guests, including processing applications and maintaining accurate records
- Support guests through the application process with patience and cultural sensitivity
- Maintain confidential guest information in accordance with program requirements
Organizational Engagement
- Attend regular all team meetings and actively contribute to program planning and review discussions
- Collaborate with staff across departments to support organizational goals and initiatives
- Assist with additional tasks or organizational needs when requested
The employee will work in a retail environment and is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, walk, and use various tools and controls. The role requires the ability to lift 50+ pounds and operate equipment such as pallet jacks (training provided).
QualificationsKnowledge and Previous Experience
- 1–3 years of grocery or retail experience
- Bilingual in English and Spanish required
- Prior experience with food distribution operations preferred
- Proficiency with technology, including inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite, preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to set priorities, track projects, and meet deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and energy for engaging with people of all backgrounds
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and operate warehouse equipment
