This skilled position involves the control and operation of the Roller on the asphalt paving machine. The operator must have a thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry, including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction, and other details related to asphalt paving. Responsibilities include controlling material input, managing material depth, planning the job, walking and marking the plan with the foreman or paver operator, measuring passes, determining truckload yield, communicating with the paving operator to maintain job pace, and monitoring mat, edges, joints, and overall job quality.

Salem, OR is the home base. Must be willing to travel as needed for business demands within the Willamette Valley.

Days, nights, and weekends. Varies based on business demands.

• Must be a current member or able to join Operators#701.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• At least 1‑2 years of experience in construction, specifically paving equipment/operations or related education/experience.
• Knowledge of proper equipment operation, grading, and work operations.
• Pass pre‑employment physical exam and pre‑employment controlled substance testing.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and nights as needed.
• Compliance with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and all other company or state rules and regulations.
• Must have current U.S. Authorization to work or the ability to obtain it without company assistance prior to the start date.

• Valid CDL license.

• Operate Roller, Paver or Screed, Blade, Loader, Backhoe, or other heavy equipment.
• Load and unload equipment and secure equipment on trailer.
• Assist labor crew with shoveling, raking, and compacting asphalt materials.
• Routinely assist other members of the workforce in different areas of production.
• Communicate promptly with supervisors about any material flaws.
• Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions.
• Complete other tasks and duties as assigned to meet business needs.
• Maintain regular and timely attendance.
• Participate in and promote an inclusive work environment.

• Regular exposure to traffic hazards and moving mechanical parts, as well as outdoor weather conditions and vibration.
• Potential wet or humid conditions.
• Noise level is usually loud; PPE will be provided. Steel‑toed boots must be supplied by the employee.
• Job requires bending, hammering, stooping, pushing, pulling, squatting, throwing, walking, and standing for most of the work day.
