What You'll Do:

Bentley Academy Innovation School in partnership with the Multilingual Learner Department of Salem Public Schools launched a two-way immersion Spanish-English dual language program with two kindergarten classrooms during the  school year. The two-way immersion program has grown by one grade level each year. The school added the final two 5th grade classrooms for the school year 25-26. The goals of the program are for all students, regardless of language background, to become bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English, to achieve academically in all subjects at high levels, and to exhibit the skills and disposition of sociocultural competence.

Dual Language Elementary Teachers are responsible for planning and teaching interdisciplinary units of Math, Science, Social Studies, and Spanish Language Arts in Spanish for English Learners and Spanish Learners together. Working closely with partner Dual Language teachers and the English language instruction teacher(s), the educator in this position will be highly collaborative, thoughtful, and creative with a focus on instructional excellence and equity for all students.

They will also be integral in growing the program by participating in district and school professional development planning and strategy sessions, engaging in family and community outreach to support the program's goals and development, and acting as a steward of dual language.

In SY 2026-27, the program will include a PreK classroom and two classrooms of each grade from Kindergarten through Grade 5. As a 90/10 Spanish/English Dual Language program, we seek teachers with a variety of Spanish and English proficiency levels based on the language of instruction in the grade.

PK - 90% Spanish Instruction

K - 90% Spanish Instruction

Grade 1 - 80% Spanish Instruction

Grade 2 - 70% Spanish/30% English Instruction

Grades 3-5 - 2 teachers in each grade: 1 teacher - 100% Spanish Instruction/1 teacher - 100% English Instruction

Role Responsibilities:

* Teaches literacy, language arts, mathematics, social studies, science in Spanish and/or English depending on grade-level and language allocation (see above).

* All teachers use strategies conducive to native speakers and language learners of the target language such as sheltered instruction (SEI), strategic pairing, and cooperative learning.

* Uses the high-quality curriculum of the school to develop lesson plans in partnership with English language instruction teacher(s) and the Bentley and Multilingual Learner team.

* Provides structure in the classroom by promoting a positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning for students of all backgrounds and language proficiency levels, using SEL and culturally responsive strategies.

* Prepares teaching materials and related reports including ongoing data analyses for the purpose of improving instruction, implementing lesson plans, and documenting student progress.

* Instructs and provides assistance for student learning, individually or in groups, designing lessons that both present and reinforce learning concepts.

* Uses appropriate inclusive practices, such as tiered supports, educational and assistive technologies, scaffolded instruction, and leveraging of students' native language and linguistic resources, to make grade-level content accessible and affirming for all.

* Assesses students in language and content proficiency, collects data, participates in data-informed practices, and adjusts instruction accordingly

* Communicates regularly and proactively with all families about student progress, concerns, and employs a culturally proficient and respectful approach in all communication

* Potential to serve on district Dual Language Task Force and attend local, regional, and national professional development sessions/conferences to contribute to development and sustainability of dual language program

* Works under the general supervision of the building principal and other building administrators at Bentley Academy Innovation School
