What You'll Do
Salem Academy Charter School seeks an excellent lower school history teacher. We are looking for a teacher who is committed to reaching all students, raising achievement through a rigorous and relevant curriculum, and supporting a school culture of excellence and joyful learning.
The ideal candidate has experience with standards-based grading and is committed to raising student achievement through an integration of rigorous college preparatory classes with service to the community. The middle school history teacher will be responsible for the following in addition to other duties as assigned by their manager:
Working with and for Students:
* Aligning curricular standards with state guidelines
* Monitoring student progress through standards-based assessments
* Analyzing student data
* Differentiating instruction
* Teaching 4 science classes per day (with 2 periods reserved for preparation and collaboration)
* Tutoring one day per week after school
* Support, plan and/or co-lead Service-Learning projects
* Advising students through daily Connections class (homeroom)
* Input academic and behavioral data on the school data management system
* Analyze student data and monitor student progress through standards-based assessments
Working with and for Families:
* Participate in Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences three times per year
* Communicate regularly with families about academic and social progress
* Co-host IEP meetings
Working with and for Colleagues:
* Build and maintain strong school culture centered on student achievement
* Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the success of the school mission
* Participate in weekly professional development sessions
* Participate in weekly grade level team meetings
* Inputting academic and behavioral data on the school data management system
Who You Are:
* You are a skilled educator. You have at least 1-3 years of experience teaching history and a sound understanding of the Massachusetts History and Social Science Curriculum Framework.

Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree;
* Demonstrated subject matter competence and a sound understanding of the Massachusetts History and Social Science Curriculum Framework;
* Possession of Massachusetts Teacher Certification or successful completion of the MTEL preferred;
* Background clearance.
Preference will be given to candidates that meet all of the requirements above, and:
* Are multilingual including in Spanish and English;
* Have designed and successfully implemented culturally responsive curriculum;
* Have similar life experiences as our students;
* Have a Master's, PhD or EdD degree;
* Excitement about integrating academics with service work;
* Interest in working collaboratively to improve instruction for all students.
