What You’ll Do:
Elementary school teachers prepare all students for personal and academic success, collaborating with colleagues, managing family partnerships, and participating in ongoing professional learning to deepen curriculum and pedagogy.
Role Responsibilities- Teaches reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, science using district curriculum and appropriate learning activities, reflecting deep understanding of state frameworks and the workshop model.
- Plans and uses instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of students’ learning styles and needs.
- Provides structure in the classroom by promoting a positive environment conducive to learning.
- Prepares teaching materials and related reports, including ongoing data analyses to improve instruction, implement lesson plans, and document student progress.
- Participates in in‑service programs to enhance the overall educational experience.
- Instructs and provides assistance for student learning, individually or in groups, designing lessons that present and reinforce learning concepts.
- Works under the general supervision of the building principal and other administrators, manages student behavior, and evaluates student achievement.

- Embrace feedback and model a growth mindset in a culture of continuous improvement.
- Bachelor’s Degree required;
Master’s Degree preferred. - Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure required.
- Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement required within one year of start date.
- Dual Certification (content area) a plus.
- Maintain professional competence through in‑service education activities provided by the District and/or self‑selected growth activities.
- Minimum of two years teaching experience, preferably in an urban public school or charter school setting.
- Proven track record of raising student achievement scores in an urban/turnaround environment highly desired.
- Proficiency with technology (blended learning, teacher/family communication suites, Google G‑Suite Apps, etc.) desirable.
- Ability to meet the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice.
- Second language (Spanish and/or Portuguese) proficiency a plus.
- Bilingual candidates and candidates of color strongly encouraged.
- Current authorization to work in the United States.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Teachers work a 185 day school year (180 student contact days plus 5 professional development days).
SalaryTeacher salaries are determined by the Salem Teachers Union collective bargaining agreement (2024‑2027).
