Job Description

Salem is a small, diverse city with a proud maritime and immigrant history. The twin‑way immersion Spanish‑English dual language program at Bentley Academy Innovation School has grown annually from two kindergarten classrooms in 2020‑21 to a full Pre‑K‑5 program in 2025‑26. The program’s missions are to make all students bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English, achieve high academic standards across all subjects, and develop sociocultural competence.

Dual Language Elementary Teachers plan and teach interdisciplinary units of Math, Science, Social Studies, and Literacy for English Learners and Spanish Learners together. Working with partner Dual Language teachers and English‑language‑instruction teachers, the educator is highly collaborative, thoughtful, and creative, with a focus on instructional excellence and equity. The teacher also supports program growth by participating in district and school professional‑development planning, engaging families and community outreach, and acting as a steward of dual language education.

Role

Responsibilities
  • Teach literacy, mathematics, social studies, and science in Spanish to native Spanish‑speaker students and Spanish learners.
  • Use strategies such as sheltered instruction, strategic pairing, and cooperative learning that support both native speakers and language learners.
  • Develop curriculum, unit, and lesson plans for the grade‑level Dual Language program in partnership with the Bentley and Multilingual Learner teams.
  • Plan and use instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect student learning styles and needs.
  • Provide classroom structure and promote a positive environment conducive to learning for all students, using SEL and culturally responsive practices.
  • Prepare teaching materials and reports, including ongoing data analyses, to improve instruction and document student progress.
  • Instruct and support students individually or in groups, designing lessons that present and reinforce learning concepts.
  • Assess student proficiency in language and content, collect data, and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Communicate regularly and proactively with families about student progress, concerns, and celebrate achievements.
  • Attend professional‑development sessions to contribute to the sustainability of the dual language program.
  • Work under the general supervision of the building principal and other administrators.
What You’ll Bring
  • Hold a deep commitment to students and families and value diversity; affirm the backgrounds of all community members.
  • Hold high expectations for yourself, students, and colleagues, modeling SPS values and seeking improvement.
  • Build authentic, caring relationships with colleagues, students, and families, partnering together for student success.
  • Embrace feedback, learning from mistakes, and using them for growth; model persistence and a growth mindset.
