Overview

The Massachusetts Inclusive Post Secondary Education (MAIPSE) is through the MA Office Of Higher Education. It is a grant funded program for students 18-26 years who have had special education services in high school. There are fifteen state-wide initiatives providing access to students with intellectual disabilities and/or autism. Salem State University’s MAIPSE initiative is the Community of Inclusive Scholars (CIS). Students in the CIS program share the same experiences as their college peers in the areas of academics, socialization, professional development, employers/internship sites, and independent living.

Students become more independent and actively engaged in creating and living their lives. The Executive Functioning (EF) Coach plays a vital role in the success of a student participating in the Salem State CIS program. The CIS EF Coach provides individualized, inclusive support to college students with intellectual and developmental disabilities and/or autism spectrum disorder enrolled in inclusive postsecondary education programs at Salem State University.

The coach facilitates student engagement in academic, social, and professional experiences, with the goal of promoting independence, self-advocacy, and successful transition to employment or further education.
