Job DescriptionSalem Public Schools is hiring a Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher for its Automotive Technology program. The CTE teacher provides instructional services in automotive, assists high schools with career path planning responsive to industry and program needs, and supports student achievement across all backgrounds.
Essential Functions- Adheres to facility, daily, and school schedule.
- Prepares and delivers daily lesson plans, curriculum, and vocational skills leading to industry recognized certification.
- Ensures students obtain National Industry Certifications through instruction and assessment.
- Designs lesson plans and collaborates with staff to emphasize integrated activities for developing academic skills appropriate for career paths.
- Communicates student behavioral and vocational progress to the CTE Director in a timely manner.
- Participates in the Professional Learning Community, providing consistent communication, preparation, and teamwork.
- Tracks student attendance and maintains student grades (weekly and exit) to document progress.
- Adheres to school grading policies, posting grades, and submitting quarterly reports.
- Develops and implements effective classroom management strategies to ensure a safe, clean, positive, inviting learning environment.
- Conducts large and small group instruction as well as individual instruction when needed.
- Maintains a three‑day supply of emergency lesson plans with clear objectives and evaluation procedures.
- Ensures the vocational building is safe and orderly; develops shop safety, security, and tool procedures, and documents violations.
- Maintains a daily and monthly inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment; uses safety data sheets when applicable.
- Commitment to students and families, valuing diversity and affirming all community members.
- High expectations for yourself and others, modeling SPS values and pursuing continuous improvement.
- Ability to build authentic, caring relationships with colleagues, students, and families.
- Openness to feedback, reflecting on mistakes and using them as professional growth opportunities.
- High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Massachusetts CTE Automotive Technology Certification required.
- Current ASE certification in at least three automotive technology areas preferred.
- At least five years of automotive industry experience and the skill set to deliver comprehensive vocational training.
- Electric & Hybrid Automotive experience preferred.
- Knowledge of vocational instructional strategies, assessment, and working with at‑risk, post‑secondary, high school‑aged youth.
- Effective communication techniques to create positive learning environments.
- Ability to pass CORI and fingerprinting checks.
- Bilingual candidates and candidates of color strongly encouraged;
Spanish and/or Portuguese proficiency is a plus. - Current authorization to work in the United States.
Salem Public Schools operates a 185‑day school year (180 student contact days plus 5 professional development days).
SalaryTeacher salaries are determined by the Salem Teachers Union collective bargaining agreement (2024‑2027). Salary information can be found in Appendix
A.
