What You’ll Do:

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure a high-quality program for all students.
  • Manage a partnership with families including regular communication regarding student success.
  • Participate in ongoing professional learning to deepen knowledge of rigorous curriculum and engaging pedagogy in both academic content and social‑emotional learning.
Role Responsibilities
  • Teach reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, science using the district curriculum and other appropriate learning activities, reflecting a deep understanding of state frameworks and the workshop model.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Provide structure in the classroom by promoting a positive classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Prepare teaching materials and related reports, including ongoing data analyses for the purpose of improving instruction, implementing lesson plans, and documenting student progress.
  • Participate in in‑service programs to enhance the overall educational experience for students.
  • Instruct and provide assistance for student learning individually or in groups, designing lessons that both present and reinforce learning concepts.
  • Work under general supervision of the building principal and other administrators, manage student behavior, assess and evaluate student achievement.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree Required;
    Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Required Massachusetts teaching certification/licence.
  • Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement required within 1 year of start date.
  • Dual certification (content area) a plus.
  • Maintain professional competence through in‑service education activities or self‑selected professional growth activities.
  • Minimum 2 years teaching experience and preferably in an urban public school or charter school setting.
  • Proven track record of raising student achievement scores in an urban/turnaround environment highly desired.
  • Proficiency with technology (blended learning, teacher/family communication suites, Google G‑Suite Apps, etc.) desirable.
  • Second language (Spanish and/or Portuguese) proficiency a plus.
  • Bilingual candidates and candidates of color strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States.
Work Year

Teachers in Salem Public Schools work a 185 day school year (180 student contact days plus 5 professional development days). Please view the 2026‑27 district and/or school calendars.

Salary

Teacher salaries in the Salem Public Schools are determined by the Salem Teachers Union collective bargaining agreement (2024‑2027). Salary information can be found in Appendix

A.
