Grade 7 Social Studies Teacher at Collins Middle School in Salem Public Schools. The successful candidate will focus on instruction in English Language Arts and Social Studies.
What You'll DoThe successful candidate will provide high‑quality instruction to students, developing and modifying instructional programs to meet individual student needs. The teacher will work under general supervision of the building principal or other designated administrator, managing student behavior, and assessing and evaluating student achievement.
Role Responsibilities- Teach Social Studies by using the district curriculum and other appropriate learning activities reflecting a deep understanding of state frameworks and use of the workshop model.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Provide structure in the classroom by promoting a positive classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Prepare teaching materials and related reports, including ongoing data analyses, for the purpose of improving instruction, implementing lesson plans, and documenting student progress.
- Participate in in‑service programs to enhance the overall educational experience for students.
- Instruct and provide assistance for student learning, individually or in groups, designing lessons that both present and reinforce learning concepts.
- Work under the general supervision of the building principal and other building administrators, manage student behavior, assess, and evaluate student achievement.

- Bachelor’s Degree required;
Master’s Degree preferred. - Required Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure.
- Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement (required within 1 year of start date).
- Ability to meet the expectations of the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice.
- Maintain professional competence through in‑service education activities provided by the District and/or self‑selected professional growth activities.
- Minimum of 2 years teaching experience and working in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred.
- Proven track record of raising student achievement scores in an urban/turnaround environment highly desired.
- Proficiency with technology (blended learning, teacher/family communication suites, Google G‑Suite Apps, etc.) desirable.
- Second language (Spanish and/or Portuguese) proficiency a plus.
- Bilingual candidates and candidates of color strongly encouraged to apply.
- Current authorization to work in the United States.
