What You’ll Do: As a building substitute, you will perform related duties in the absence of the classroom teacher to provide continuity in the day‑to‑day responsibilities by implementing the teacher’s prepared lesson plans.

• Provide instructions according to lesson plans as prepared by the classroom teacher or create lesson plans in the absence of a prepared lesson.
• Uphold all district policies, rules and procedures.
• Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning.
• Assist the teacher with all aspects of the daily routine, including distributing and collecting supplies, keeping attendance records, lunchroom duty, recess, etc.
• Maintain confidentiality at all times.
• Present material using a variety of approaches, techniques, and media aids to stimulate interest, enthusiasm, and curiosity about subjects and events.
• Perform other related duties and/or provide classroom coverage as requested by the teacher/principal and designees.

• Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred)
• Minimum of 1 year of teaching experience in an urban public or charter school setting (Preferred)
• Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies
• Second language (Spanish and/or Portuguese) proficiency is a plus
• Bilingual candidates and candidates of color strongly encouraged to apply
• Current authorization to work in the United States
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required

Building substitutes will be hired to work at one particular school and will have a guaranteed role every day.

Building substitutes are full-time employees and part of the Paraprofessional Union. Pay aligns with the Para CBA.
