The newly merged Sarah Parker Remond Elementary School will open on July 1, 2026, bringing together the Carlton Innovation School and Saltonstall Elementary into Salem's largest and most dynamic elementary community, serving nearly 500 students in the vibrant Point neighborhood. Led by Principal Bethann Jellison and Associate Principal Lauren Weaver, the school blends the best of both communities—Carlton's innovative, student-centered model and Saltonstall's strong instructional practices—to create a forward-thinking environment grounded in collaboration, continuous progress, and data-informed teaching.
Teachers will join a supportive, team-based structure with multiple educators per grade level, expanded student supports, and opportunities for leadership and creativity through flexible staffing, curriculum autonomy, and embedded coaching. With a focus on a "Core + More" instructional model, community-based learning connected to Salem's rich cultural landscape, and meaningful multi-age experiences, Sarah Parker Remond Elementary offers educators a unique opportunity to be part of building an inclusive, innovative school designed to meet diverse student needs while shaping the future of teaching and learning.
Elementary School teachers are responsible for preparing all students for personal and academic success. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure a high-quality program for all students. The elementary teacher will effectively manage a partnership with families including regular communication informing of students' success towards mastering content and personal learning habits. The elementary teachers will participate in ongoing professional learning to deepen knowledge of rigorous engaging curriculum and pedagogy in both academic content and social-emotional learning.
Role Responsibilities:
- Analyze data to inform instruction and improve student performance
- Work collaboratively in environments including co-teaching and intensive skills development
- Collaborate with school personnel, parents and community agencies in order to improve the quality of student outcomes, develop solutions, plan curriculum, collect data and create Individual Education Programs (IEP) for students
- Certification in Wilson, Orton Gillingham, LiPS, or other phonics based reading program
- Experience implementing reading comprehension programs
- Use innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including the effective use of technology, to increase student learning and confidence
- Prepare students for success on state testing
- Modify/adapt materials and instructional lessons to meet the specific needs of students
- Provide classroom staff with resources, tools, and modeling of techniques
- Present evidence of student progress toward goals and objectives through regular progress reports & team meetings
- Offer activities and instruction that will allow students of all levels to successfully engage in instruction using the Common Core standards as a framework
