What You'll Do:

This individual is accountable for the teaching and supervision of students in all of the Carpentry program in collaboration with the other construction program instructors. This program falls under Chapter 74, the Massachusetts state frameworks and curriculum disciplines under the direction of the CTE Director.

Role Responsibilities:

* Teaches Exploratory and Carpentry courses to grades 9-12.

* Aligns all teaching and learning to the MA VTE frameworks and the competencies for Carpentry

* Oversees the Advisory Board for Carpentry.

* Ensures that OSHA standards are enforced and that all safety protocol is followed.

* Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflects an understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.

* Demonstrate knowledge of students' IEPs, as well as the accommodations and modifications necessary for student success.

* Responds to any correspondence, both oral and written, that comes from a parent or guardian.

* Provides structure in the classroom by promoting a positive classroom environment that It is conducive to learning for students of all backgrounds and language proficiency levels.

* Works under the general supervision of the CTE Director, building principal, and other building administrators, manages student behavior, assesses, and evaluates student achievement; utilizes Standards-Based Grading as it is adopted and integrated into the CTE curriculum.

* Participates in all professional responsibilities, including but not limited to Coordinated Program Reviews, Advisory board meetings, Open Houses, departmental meetings, IEP meetings, etc....

* Accepts additional responsibilities as may be required under the direction of the Director of Career & Technical Education.

Required Qualifications:

* Chapter 74 Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure in Carpentry (required)

* Current Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License (CSL) (required)

* OSHA & Red Cross "train the trainer" certification or willingness to obtain within the first year of service

* Five years of recent (within the last seven years) full-time employment experience directly related to carpentry/construction

* Five years of recent (within the last seven years) full-time employment experience directly related to a construction program
