Job DescriptionSalem Public Schools is an urban public school district enrolling nearly 4,000 students in 10 schools. Sarah Parker Remond Elementary School will open on July 1, 2026, resulting from the merger of Carlton Innovation School and Saltonstall Elementary. The school offers a “Core + More” instructional model, community‑based learning, and meaningful multi‑age experiences. Teachers work in a supportive, team‑based structure with multiple educators per grade, expanded student supports, and opportunities for leadership and curriculum autonomy.
What You’ll DoAs an elementary teacher, you will be a member of the core academic team responsible for delivering effective, high‑quality, rigorous instruction that engages all students. You will collaborate with special‑education and multilingual‑learning teachers, utilize the district’s core curricula and instructional tools, and use data to inform instruction.
Role Responsibilities- Teach all students using the district curriculum and other appropriate learning activities reflecting a deep understanding of the state frameworks for the assigned elementary grade level.
- Possess deep knowledge of the science of reading and demonstrate expertise integrating evidence‑based practices into daily instruction.
- Hold high expectations for student learning and behavior, and provide support to help students achieve.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect students’ learning styles and needs.
- Prepare teaching materials and related reports, including ongoing data analyses, to improve instruction and document student progress.
- Provide structure in the classroom by promoting a positive learning environment.
- Instruct and provide assistance for student learning, individually or in groups, designing lessons that present and reinforce learning concepts.
- Work toward understanding all students’ backgrounds, building positive relationships, and utilizing culturally responsive teaching methods.
- Maintain effective and regular communication with students and their families.
- Participate in professional development to enhance the overall educational experience.
- Work under the general supervision of the building principal and administrators, manage student behavior, and assess student achievement.
- Support the school community with additional duties as needed.

- Bachelor’s Degree required;
Master’s Degree preferred. - Required Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure.
- Required Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement within 1 year of start date.
- Dual certification in a content area, special education, and/or ESL a plus.
- Maintain professional competence through in‑service education activities and/or self‑selected growth activities.
- Minimum 2 years of teaching experience in an urban or charter school setting.
- Proven track record of raising student achievement in an urban/turnaround environment.
- Proficiency with technology (digital literacy, teacher/family communication suites, Google Workspace).
- Second language proficiency (Spanish or Portuguese) a plus.
- Bilingual candidates and candidates of color strongly encouraged.
- Current authorization to work in the United States.
Teachers in Salem Public Schools work a 185‑day school year (180 student contact days plus 5 professional development days).
SalaryTeacher salaries are determined by the Salem Teachers Union collective bargaining agreement (2024‑2027). Salary information can be found in Appendix
A.
