Position: Faculty: Secondary and Higher Education (School Counseling), Full-Time, Professor of Practice

Overview

The McKeown School of Education is seeking applicants for a full‑time professor of practice position with a specialization in School Counseling beginning in September 2027. The School Counseling Program prepares candidates to be educational leaders, social justice advocates, and system change agents with an emphasis on working in a variety of urban and suburban settings. This faculty member will teach six graduate‑level classes per year and advise school counseling students.

Course topics include Multicultural Counseling, Career Counseling, Seminar in School Adjustment Counseling, and School Counseling practicum/seminar courses.

Please Note

This is a four‑year, fixed‑term position ending on May 31, 2031.

Duties and Responsibilities

Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract. Duties include teaching, advising, and continuous effort to maintain modern skills and knowledge in their field of practice. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The position is subject to available funding.

This position will work collaboratively with the graduate program coordinator and the field office to facilitate program coordination.

The direct supervision of school counseling candidates
Conducting student admission reviews and new student onboarding
Managing students’ plans of study
Monitoring internship and practicum site approval and accountability
Reporting of hours
Assisting with curriculum planning
Maintaining records for a program with national reach

Required Qualifications

An earned master’s degree in school counseling or a related area

Current licensure/certification as a practicing school counselor

A minimum of three years of documented prior experience as a school counselor

An understanding of the school adjustment counselor role

Experience working with students through hybrid learning, mentoring, and training

Membership in the American School Counseling Association

Preferred Qualifications

An earned PhD in Counselor Education from a CACREP‑accredited program or a PhD in Counseling Psychology from an APA‑accredited program

Evidence of strong clinical skills and a strong school counselor identity

Evidence of strong teaching skills at the undergraduate and graduate levels

Working Location

This is an onsite position in Salem, MA with on‑campus, in‑person responsibilities.
