Faculty: Childhood Education; Special Education Tenure-Track

Overview

Salem State University invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track faculty position in Special Education beginning in Fall 2027. The successful candidate will contribute to a dynamic educator preparation program committed to inclusive practices, equity, and strong partnerships with schools and communities.

Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract. Duties include teaching, advising, scholarship and contributions to continuously improve the department and university. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The position is subject to available funding.

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Special Education in multiple modalities
• Supervise teacher candidates in pre‑practicum and/or practicum field experiences
• Develop and maintain partnerships with local schools and districts to support practicum experiences and collaborative initiatives
• Participate in program development and accreditation processes

Depending on student enrollment trends and department needs, it is possible, but not guaranteed, to renew the temporary full‑time position in future academic years.

• Earned doctoral degree in Special Education or a closely related field (conferred by August 1, 2027)
• Professional experience as a Special Education teacher
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusive instructional practices in educational settings and culturally responsive practices
• A scholarly agenda
• Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
  • Evidence‑based instructional practices, materials, and methods for teaching students with moderate disabilities
  • Literacy instruction for students with disabilities
  • Diagnostic and educational assessment for students with disabilities
  • Development, interpretation, and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Autism spectrum disorder, including school‑based and home‑based interventions, collaboration with families, and advocacy for students with autism

• Experience teaching in higher education
• Experience with online asynchronous or hybrid instruction and learning management systems, such as Canvas
• Strong organizational and written and communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students from varied backgrounds and to support an inclusive learning environment. Applicants may describe relevant accomplishments in teaching, scholarship/research, service, and community‑engaged work.

This is an onsite position in Salem, MA with on‑campus, in‑person responsibilities.
