Assistant Director of Outreach and Community Engagement

Overview

The School of Social Work at Salem State University seeks a dynamic, strategic, and experienced professional to join our School as the Assistant Director of Outreach and Community Engagement. You will play a pivotal role in leading the expansion of our innovative BSW and MSW online degree pathways. This is a leadership role designed for a project management expert who can bridge the gap between academic rigor and workforce needs.

As the primary architect of our outreach strategy, you will build and sustain high-impact partnerships with community and traditional colleges, regional employers, and diverse stakeholders to create seamless educational pipelines for the next generation of social work professionals.

In this role, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of social work professionals through accessible, equitable, and efficient pathways. The MSW program admitted its first online cohort in January of 2022 and the BSW program admitted its first cohort in May 2025. The role is a staff position, does not include teaching responsibilities, is not eligible for remote work and is not eligible for tenure.

The Assistant Director for Outreach and Community Engagement reports to the Associate Dean.

The School of Social Work offers both an MSW and BSW education to approximately 500 students. The MSW program admitted its first online cohort in January of 2022 and the BSW program admitted its first cohort in May 2025. . Please Note: This is a three-year, grant funded, full-time 12-month staff position, with an on-campus presence requirement.

• 1. Master’s degree in Social Workfrom an accredited institution.
• 2. Minimum of two years of documented post-graduate social work practice experience.
• 3. Demonstrated experience in project management.
• 4. A valid driver's License

• 1. Experience working in higher education.
• 2. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite of products.
• 3. Networking, outreach, and team-building skills.
• 4. Demonstrated problem-solving and organizational skills with the flexibility to manage multiple tasks.
• 5. Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
• 6. Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, including experience working in teams and the ability to navigate various team dynamics and work directly with stakeholders.

This is an onsitepositionin Salem, MA with on-campus, in-person responsibilities,which may require occasional work on evenings and weekends.
