Lactation Consultant

Responsible for providing information and education regarding breastfeeding to patients and families and assists patients with the establishment of lactation. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes.

• Providing lactation assessment, planning, education and instruction to patients and families.
• Identifies and aids in resolution of breastfeeding difficulties, develops care plans with staff to meet individual patient’s needs and provides follow‑up consultations.
• Offering post‑delivery consultative care to patients: breastfeeding/Chest feeding, family bonding and planning.
• Evaluating patient’s response to care and initiates independent and/or collaborative changes where appropriate.
• Coordination and management of care for patients, including those with complex needs.
• Provides information and education regarding breastfeeding to maternity and NICU staff.

• Associate’s Degree Nursing required or Bachelor’s Degree Nursing preferred.
• Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.

• Certified Lactation Counselor/Consultant (CLC) – Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice preferred.
• International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) – International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) preferred.

• Lactation consulting 2‑3 years preferred.

• Strong patient/customer service skills.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to build strong relationships.
• Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
