Do you have a passion for creating a memorable culinary experience for events?
The historic Hawthorne Hotel, adjacent to the Common in Salem, is searching for a highly motivated individual with a can‑do attitude to join our culinary team. This position will work closely with our Executive Chef and Director of Dining Services and Events to plan and execute high‑volume food service for hotel events.
The focus of this role is to flawlessly create and execute F&B for an array of events including corporate, social (memorials, showers), fundraisers and weddings.
The ideal candidate for this position will have experience with the execution of 100+ person events. You should be task and detail‑oriented to help oversee the quality and consistency of the food preparation of all banquet or catering events.
Major areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:- Review banquet event orders (BEOs) and communicate recommendations to catering managers.
- Able to lead banquet production and plating with the assistance of Banquet Sous and line staff.
- Establish the day’s priorities and assign production and preparation tasks for the banquet kitchen staff to execute.
- Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to provide clear direction to staff.
- Take physical inventory of specified food items for daily inventory.
- Lead the kitchen team during large events (weddings, etc.)
- Able to perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Culinary / Hospitality degree or certificate preferred
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a luxury catering, banquet, or hotel high volume production setting
- Serv Safe certification
- Displays leadership in hospitality, exemplifying excellent customer service and creates a positive atmosphere for both internal and external guests
- Has an eye for detail and creativity to look at things differently
- Able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication in English
Position requires standing for long periods of time and working on nights, weekends, and holidays.
