Required Qualifications
  • 1 year recent experience as an Interventional Radiology RN
  • Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
  • Current BLS (AHA/ARC) certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • PALS or ENPC certification
  • ACLS certification
  • RCIS/RCES certification
  • Other certifications or licenses may be required
Summary

The Interventional Radiology Nurse provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing minimally invasive procedures in the IR lab, including pre-procedure assessment, intra-procedure monitoring, sedation administration, and post-procedure recovery management.

Essential Work Functions
  • Perform comprehensive pre-procedure assessments, including reviewing medical history and lab results
  • Educate patients and families about IR procedures, sedation, and post-procedure care
  • Administer and monitor moderate sedation, ensuring patient comfort and safety
  • Monitor hemodynamic status, cardiac rhythms, and oxygenation levels during procedures
  • Assist physicians during procedures, ensuring proper positioning, sterile technique, and instrument handling
  • Recognize and respond to complications, escalating care when necessary
  • Provide post-procedure monitoring and recovery care, including pain management and patient discharge education
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient assessments, medications, and procedural details
  • Collaborate with IR technologists, radiologists, and other healthcare team members to deliver coordinated care
  • Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
Required Essential Skills
  • Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication in English
  • Ability to read written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and use basic PC skills
  • Physical ability to remain stationary, move about, move equipment (50-100 lbs), push, pull, and bend
  • Professional attitude and interpersonal skills with diverse personnel
  • Fine motor skills for procedures and equipment handling
  • Capacity to cope with frequent public contact and work under pressure with occasional supervision
  • Visual acuity and effective communication
