Description:

Floating required, mostly to Medical/Surgical Units. Must be able to read telemetry strips. The unit is a Level III Trauma Center with a 20-bed Medical/Surgical ICU. The ICU cares for a wide range of adult patients, including those with substance abuse/overdose, severe psychiatric conditions, DKA, sepsis, GI bleed, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, renal failure, and cardiogenic shock. Attendings and residents are present in the ICU 24 hours a day.

The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2 or 1:1 with high acuity, and 1:4 or 1:5 when floated to other Med/Surg areas. All patient populations are cared for in this unit. The charting system used is electronic. Rotating shifts are required for all day positions, which may include morning and evening shifts when needed. Night shift does not rotate.
