Description:
This is a medical telemetry unit with 37 beds. Patients are often admitted from the emergency department or transferred from other units. The unit cares for patients on various drips such as Cardizem, Nitroglycerin, Lasix, and Heparin. Common patient diagnoses include congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, pulmonary embolism, and pneumonia. Patients with alcohol-related issues and dementia with cardiac co-morbidities are also admitted.
Occasional surgical patients are included in the population served. Travelers are required to float to applicable units when needed. Travelers should have the ability to interpret telemetry strips. The RN to patient ratio during daytime shifts is 1:4 with a maximum of 5 patients. Night shift ratio is 1:5-6. Day shift on weekdays includes a Charge RN without a patient assignment.
The unit features various room types, including private and semi-private rooms. The EMR system used is EPIC.
