Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Elementary Special Education Teacher to join our team. This role is designed for an educator who excels in providing direct instructional services, managing complex caseloads, and implementing evidence‑based programming specifically tailored for students on the Autism Spectrum. You will be the primary advocate and instructional lead for your students, ensuring that their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) are not just documents, but active roadmaps to their success.
Key Responsibilities- Specialized Instruction & Autism Programming
- Design and implement individualized daily lessons focusing on academic, social‑emotional, and functional life skills.
- Utilize evidence‑based practices for Autism (e.g., ABA, PECS, or Social Stories) to support student engagement and communication.
- Create a highly structured, predictable classroom environment with visual supports and sensory integration strategies.
- Modify general education curriculum to ensure meaningful access and participation for students with diverse learning profiles.
- Case Management & Compliance
- Serve as the primary Case Manager for a designated group of students.
- Lead the development, writing, and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations (IDEA).
- Coordinate and facilitate IEP meetings, ensuring collaborative input from parents, general educators, and related service providers (OT, PT, SLP).
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records, including progress monitoring data and service logs.
- Behavioral Support & Assessment
- Collaborate with BCBA on Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and the development/implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
- Collect and analyze data to track student progress and adjust instructional or behavioral strategies accordingly.
- Administer academic and functional assessments to determine eligibility and inform programming.
- Collaboration & Leadership
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support successful inclusion and "push‑in" services.
- Direct and supervise the work of classroom Paraprofessionals, providing clear guidance on student goals and behavioral supports.
- Maintain frequent, transparent communication with families to bridge the gap between school and home.
- Education:
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Special Education. - Certification:
Valid State Teaching Certification in Special Education (Elementary/K‑6 or K‑12). - Expertise:
Demonstrated experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), preferred. - Skills:
Strong proficiency in material development, excellent organizational skills, and a "solutions‑oriented" mindset. - Preferred:
Certification or extensive training in ABA or specialized Autism programming.
