The CDL School Bus & Van Driver is a critical safety role responsible for transporting Club members in full-size school buses and multi-passenger vans. This individual ensures that every tripwhether a daily school pick-up or a long-distance field tripis conducted with the highest level of professional driving skill and adherence to federal and state transportation laws.
Key Responsibilities- 1. Professional Vehicle Operation
- CDL Compliance:
Operate full-size school buses (Type C or
D) and passenger vans in strict accordance with NH Department of Safety and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations. - Pre/Post-Trip Inspections:
Perform rigorous daily inspections of air brakes, emergency exits, stop arms, and fluid levels. Must complete and sign official DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports). - Climate & Road Adaptation:
Safely navigate Salem-area traffic and New England weather conditions, making professional judgments on road safety.

- Loading/Unloading:
Execute safe loading and unloading procedures, including the proper use of the 8-light system and stop arms. - Safe Climate:
Maintain a Blue Door environment one that is physically and emotionally safe. Enforce bus safety rules firmly but positively. - Emergency Leadership:
Lead bus evacuation drills and take command in the event of a mechanical breakdown or traffic incident.

- Logistics:
Maintain accurate mileage logs, fuel receipts, and student headcounts. - Vehicle Readiness:
Ensure the bus/van is fueled and cleaned daily. Report any mechanical red flags immediately to ensure the vehicle is pulled from service if unsafe.

Licensing:
Must possess a valid Class B CDL (or higher) with:
P (Passenger) Endorsement
S (School Bus) Endorsement
Air Brake Endorsement (if this type of bus is added to the fleet)
Medical Fitness:
Must maintain a current DOT Medical Examiners Certificate (Med Card).
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience operating heavy vehicles or school buses.
Clearances:
Must pass NH School Bus Driver criminal background check, fingerprinting, and be subject to federally mandated random drug and alcohol testing.
