ORGANIZATION

Unit American Standard / Bootz finance organization

ROLE

Individual contributor; sole on-site finance resource

PRIMARY FOCUS

Standard costing, BOMs, inventory control, valuation support, and plant cost visibility

Position Summary

The Cost Accountant provides hands‑on finance support at the Salem manufacturing plant. Working with plant leadership and the remote finance team, this person maintains accurate standard costs, bills of material (BOMs), inventory transactions, valuation inputs, and cost reporting. The role is responsible for finding errors at their source, correcting them, and building practical controls that make cost and inventory information more reliable.

This is an individual‑contributor position with no direct reports. It is designed for a cost accountant who is comfortable working in the details, partnering directly with operations, and improving processes in an active manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and validate standard costs, product-cost setup, and BOM information for the Salem plant.
  • Review inventory movements and transfers, support reconciliations, and help ensure inventory is recorded and valued accurately.
  • Identify and correct master-data, transaction, training, and process issues that affect product cost or inventory reporting.
  • Extract, reconcile, analyze, and validate ERP and spreadsheet data to prepare cost-to-produce analysis, cost variances, inventory information, and department-spend reporting.
  • Translate plant activity and financial data into clear actions for operations and finance leaders.
  • Partner with plant teams to improve transaction discipline, resolve exceptions, and follow issues through completion.
  • Document processes, controls, owners, review routines, and escalation paths so the work is repeatable.
  • Support the disciplined transfer of Salem cost‑accounting responsibilities from remote finance while maintaining reporting and governance connections.
What Success Looks Like
  • Standard costs and BOMs are accurate, reviewed, and supported by a clear exception process.
  • Inventory‑movement pathways are documented, reconciled, and assigned to accountable owners.
  • Recurring cost and valuation calculations have defined methods, source data, review points, and timing.
  • Plant and finance leaders receive useful cost, inventory, and spend information, with material exceptions surfaced promptly.
  • Salem has dependable on‑site ownership of day‑to‑day cost‑accounting and inventory‑control support.
Required Qualifications
  • Hands‑on experience with manufacturing cost accounting, including standard costing, product-cost setup, BOMs, and inventory control or valuation.
  • Ability to work with ERP and spreadsheet data at the transaction and master‑data level, including pivot tables, lookup logic, or equivalent tools.
  • Experience identifying the cause of an unreliable process and putting practical controls and ownership in place.
  • Ability to communicate financial consequences clearly and influence operating practices across plant and finance teams.
  • Strong attention to detail, follow‑through, and comfort working independently as the primary on‑site finance resource.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with CMS or a comparable manufacturing ERP system.
  • Experience with ERP integration, acquisition environments, procurement reporting, or department‑spend reporting.
  • Experience in an inventory‑intensive manufacturing environment, including building products, consumer products, discrete manufacturing, or process manufacturing.
