Stepdown Registered Nurse | Salem, Ohio

A registered nurse position is available in a high-acuity stepdown unit specializing in adult and geriatric patients requiring complex care. This role demands strong clinical skills, including ventilator management, insulin drip administration, and experience with advanced respiratory modalities. The unit cares for patients with diverse diagnoses, including respiratory, renal, surgical, and trauma cases, making it a dynamic environment that requires critical thinking and adaptability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans.
• Manage high-acuity patients with multi-system organ failure using evidence-based practices.
• Administer medications safely, including drips such as Cardizem and Amiodarone; no pressors are used.
• Provide ventilator and airway support, including BiPAP, CPAP, trach care, and high-flow oxygen therapies.
• Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care and patient education.
• Act as a patient advocate, assisting families and caregivers throughout the care continuum.
• Maintain patient safety by participating in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Provide clinical leadership and orientation for nursing staff and support personnel.

Qualifications & Desired

Experience:

• Current registered nurse license in the state or compact licensure.
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience with at least 6 months in an acute care hospital setting.
• Ventilator experience and strong proficiency in managing high-acuity stepdown patients.
• Certifications:
  
  BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Certification required; CCRN or PCCN preferred.
• Familiarity with electronic health record systems (EPIC preferred).
• Critical care or progressive care certification is advantageous.

Additional Details:

• 12-hour night shifts.
• Patient ratios typically range from 1:4 to 1:5, with CNA support.
• This contract opportunity requires relocation or travel, as local candidates will not be considered.
