Position Overview

Location:

Salem MOD (12179 W South Range Road, Salem, OH 44460). Must live within 25 miles and 30 minutes of Salem. The Welder performs electric arc and oxy‑acetylene welding, hot‑tapping, and plugging operations on natural gas pipelines, ensuring compliance with NiSource Distribution Operations welding specifications and procedures.

• Apply welding specifications and procedures for pipeline facilities, including casings.
• Perform Shielded Metal Arc Welding on natural gas pressurized steel piping, equipment, and fittings.
• Use oxy‑acetylene to cut and fabricate material.
• Execute hot tapping, plugging, and setting completion plugs on all sizes and pressures of natural gas pipelines.
• Maintain all welding equipment and pipe drilling, tapping, and plugging equipment.
• Monitor pressure, gas flow, and adherence to tie‑in and purging procedures.
• Operate cutting, drilling, and plugging equipment safely and effectively.
• Follow all operational policies, codes, regulations, and OSHA requirements.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years of plant‑field and/or natural gas construction operations experience.
• Experience in welding and/or operating drilling and plugging equipment.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions, confined spaces, and awkward positions.
• Knowledge of tie‑in, purging procedures, and monitoring pressure and gas flow.
• Physical capacity to pass a post‑offer test if required.
• Working knowledge of federal, state, and local codes, regulations, and OSHA pipeline safety standards.
• Self‑motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Team orientation with experience in field, technical operations, contractors, and integration centers.
• Mechanical aptitude and proficiency with hand tools.
• Strong analytical, mathematical, oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle.
• Stoppel & Welding qualification is preferred.
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Competitive salary range: $50.59 – $57.19 per hour, based on skills, knowledge, and experience.
