Position: Accounting Technician (2 Positions!)

Responsibilities

We are seeking to hire two Accounting Technicians in the Office of Financial Services. The role requires applying accounting methods and procedures, operating a computer to enter, update, and retrieve fiscal information, and tracking errors and resolving discrepancies in accounting records.

  • Financial Transactions
    :
    Ensure financial documents are complete, accurate, and properly authorized. Monitor fiscal areas such as federal and state grants, budgets, monthly benefit accounts, contracts, and diagram the flow of a transaction through debits and credits to verify complex entries.
  • Maintain Accounting Records
    :
    Review and process contested or complicated financial transactions, verify computer uploads for accuracy, balance and examine monthly revenues and expenditures, subsidiary and control accounts, collections, inventory, and other interrelated accounts.
  • Reporting
    :
    Prepare financial and statistical reports including statements of cash receipts and disbursements, accounts payable and receivable, supporting schedules, profit and loss statements, and other detail and summary reports pertinent to agency operations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that includes coding transactions, checking propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits.
  • OR One year of experience with the same duties AND at least 43 quarter (29 semester) credit hours from an accredited college, university or vocational-technical school, including 9 quarter (6 semester) credit hours in accounting (introductory level accounting courses 1 &
    2).
  • OR Successful completion of the State of Oregon Accounting Career Mobility Program or equivalent accounting certificate program.
  • OR At least 94 quarter (62 semester) credit hours or an associate degree with 12 quarter (8 semester) credit hours in accounting, including introductory level courses 1 & 2.
  • Training or experience must include using a computer to enter, update, or retrieve information.
Essential Attributes
  • Proficiency in MS Excel including SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT functions, basic formatting, simple formulas, pivot tables, and macros.
  • Demonstrated initiative to assess situations and act without direction.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with diverse groups verbally or in writing.
  • Reliability: consistently follows through on commitments and contributes to shared goals.
  • Workload management: assesses workload demands, allocates assignments, and adjusts priorities to maintain productivity.

General Information

This is a permanent, full‑time position represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). The office setting includes a hybrid option after training. During training you will work in Salem, OR, Monday to Friday 8:00am‑5:00pm PST. After training, a hybrid schedule (2‑3 days in Salem, remote the rest) may be offered based on performance and business need. The role may involve stressful situations requiring quick decision‑making.
